Stop filling your holes.
I have been listening to Michael A. Singer for the last few days. The link i have attached is his free audio book on Youtube. If there is one thing i would love you do is stop reading me and click that link and listen to his book. (The Untethered Soul. The Journey beyond yourself.)
It’s a masterpiece of spiritual thinking for the modern age. His teaching is so simple and yet so profound. He is what i call true Karma Yogi. He lives in the real world and teaches how to use life as a meditation and not just how to meditate.
Here are some of his gems that i have absorbed.
- Desire is a disturbance that signals you lack something inside yourself.
That desire causes you pain and anxiety. You try and fill that desire with something from the outside to feel full. But after sometime, the hole reappears. It’s as if you munched through it and and now you are hungry again. This goes on and on in your life on all fronts.
But if you stop and step back and observe your mind you find that you are already whole and complete.
If you can look at your life from this distance, then desire will drop away like a scab on a wound. You can still enjoy your life. Accept the richness of what every moment brings but just not have a disturbance of the wound of desire to deal with anymore.
2. When you feel lost inside you look for answers outside.
But in actual fact you are lost inside your mind. Don’t look to solve your problems by attending to the stem or the leaves or the flowers of your life. Go to the root. Go inside yourself and cleanse your root. It might scare you but if you go within with all the sincerity of a yogi who wants to find his peace- you will be guided by the sacred.
3. Freedom is not about taming yourself. It’s about letting go of yourself.
True freedom is freedom from yourself.
You have pieces inside you that are your memories of yourself from the past that keep coming back up periodically. And they come up and react with the moments that are in front of you. This experience is disturbing and prevents you from living a full life. How to let them go is simple — does not mean it’s easy …but it’s simple.
“They will come up periodically on their own and you will find that you have the opportunity to either keep them `
cling to them'or let them pass through.
That is the essence of being free.”
4. Creativity comes from the higher self and gets poured into your mind.
Don’t serve your personal self (a.k.a your ego). Serve your spiritual self (higher self). Let the ego come and go and sit around you like your pet. But don’t serve it. Letting go of your personal self does not mean its gone. It’s just not making you its slave. That means you can now handle it.
5. Decisions that decide the quality of your life tend to be based on fulfilling a desire or reducing a fear. Instead, they need to be based on if you feel whole and complete inside first.
If your heart is open and filled with love it does not matter what decision you make in life. It will colour them both with compassion. If you can get rid of the noise inside of you, you will have clarity to see what serves your energy or creates balance inside you best.
“You have to learn to step back `behind the decision’ to see where you are coming from. Its a deep centre inside that undercuts all decision. In that space you are at peace and complete.”
I could go on.
